Another Farmer's Institute has been held in Lowell and it was indeed a grand success. The farmers of today are seemingly much better read men than one would suppose. The talks and ideas advanced at the institute, will be of future benefit to those who were present. The Farmer is the backbone of their mighty nation and the advancement and betterment of the Farmer's condition mean prosperity and strength for the nation. We all depend upon the products of the farm.

What is to be done with the fill at Bear Creek bridge? As soon as the weather gets a little warmer the place will become impassible unless something is done. It is up to some one to do something to keep the road open.

Leland Walter, only child of Parley D. and Sarah E. RIPLEY, was born April 7th 1905 and died Sept. 15th 1906 aged 1 year, 5 months and 8 days. His pilgrimage on earth was brief but in that time he endeared himself to us with his many sweet ways, that the home seemed hallowed by his presence. It is very hard to do without him, yet why should we mourn when he giveth his beloved sleep. He was like a ray of sunshine all day long. Shall we mourn for the bud transplanted just in its sweetest bloom to the great eternal garden where the frost can never come.
Shall we mourn for the little lamb
Folded close to the Savior's breast
Or wish it was out in the storm of life
Instead of forever at rest.
Oh, no, in sweet submission
We bow to our Father's will;
Although his ways seem strange to us
We know he loves us still.
But we tenderly remember
Our darling's pretty ways,
Which to us were such a comfort
In the blessed by-gone days.
S.E. RIPLEY

NEARLY LOSSES AN EYE
Albert HENNIGER narrowly escaped losing the sight of his left eye Monday. The gas was very weak and he was engaged in cutting wood with which to warm his store. A piece blew up striking him on the eye lid which was cut and soon became black and blue. The eye ball was only slightly injured.
*****
GAS RUNS LOW
The cold spell was very noticable the first of the week on account of the small supply of gas. The pupils of the primary room of the Lowell schools were dismissed Monday on account of the coldness of the room. The bakers at the Home Bakery went "to the woods" for fuel with which to do their baking. Many people were more or less uncomfortable as it was almost impossible to get wood or coal on such short notice. There is considerable comment on the situation, some have stated that the gas is "playing out" while others say there is sufficient. If the company has the gas the consumers are entitled to enough of it to live comfortably.
